Our Family's History

My photo
Our family started on November 1, 2003 when Doug and Lauri got married. We added to our family on August 7, 2005 with the arrival of Ronnie. We live in Shakopee, MN and enjoy going to the gym, the movies, karate, and Papa's (and Nana's) cabin in McGregor on weeekends.

Halloween 2010

For Halloween this year, Ronnie wanted to be Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars. That meant, of course, that Lauri would be Princess Leia. Ronnie and Lauri had a great Halloween weekend - dressing up for work and school parties, a YMCA party, and trick-or-treating. We had a lot of fun!!!

What a cute Anakin!!

Ronnie and his buddy Aidan at the YMCA Halloween Party.

Aidan was "Joe Mauer" from the Twins.... Here they are posing.

The Ridgedale YMCA had a great party set up for the kids. There were games in the gym (hockey, bean bag toss, and a jumper), food upstairs, dance routines in the aerobic room, and a movie in the pool area (appropriately titled "Flick and a Float").
Here's Ronnie playing hockey.

Ronnie and Aidan jumped in the jumper several times... and still weren't tired!

Trick-or-treating.... We always stop at Bruce's house first... He is the SUPER NICE neighbor across the street. He and his wife are great.

Getting candy from Lori... her big, white fluffy dog was there to greet us with a Halloween bandana on.

We stopped at the Burdick's house - then made our way back home. Greg was dressed up like a Rastafarian....

Ronnie made a haul! By the time we turned around to come home, he had me carrying the trick-or-treat bag inbetween houses because it was too heavy!

At home, Ronnie pulled each piece of candy out one-by-one and asked us to explain what each one was. He gave Lauri the Almond Joys, and divided up the KitKats so that we each had one.
The rule is - 2 pieces of candy per night... We'll see how long that works!
It was a FUN Halloween!!!!

Pumpkin Patch

Every year, we head to Belle Plaine to go to Emma Krumbee's Farm. We play on the hay pile, pick out our pumpkins, ride a pony, check out the other festivities, and end the day with some sort of "fresh off the farm" treat (apple turnover, ice cream, pie, etc.). This year, the weather was cloudy- but warm, and we had a good time!

Getting ready to jump from the top of the hay pile.

Playing on the pirate ship - Ronnie is pretending he only has one eye and is saying "ARRGGG..." It was pretty funny!

Karate - On to the Green Belt!

On October 23rd, Ronnie tested for his green belt in the Karate Kubs. He did GREAT... and earned his belt!

Ronnie with his karate buddies - Jack and Matthew. Jack and Mattew are both 1-2 years older. Jack moved up to the Juniors group. Matthew earned his yellow belt.

Poppy and Grandma's Visit

Poppy and Carol came for a visit in September. We had a great time just hanging out - running errands, doing Family Movie Night, going to the zoo, and playing in the backyard.

Grandma and Poppy tickling Ronnie as part of their tackle efforts. Ronnie kept laughing and asking for more.

Hiking at the Cabin

We had a great time hiking at the cabin with friends this year... Alyssa and Cole Johnson (Lauri's coworker and her husband) joined us one weekend - then Beth joined us the next. We went to Savannah National Park just down the road from Big Sandy Lake and hiked on the trails there. Ronnie really enjoyed it!

Cleaning his shoes off at the "wipe your feet station"...

It didn't take Ronnie long to find a walking stick!

Playing at the playground after the hike.

Alyssa and Cole found about 20 little frogs floating in the water and hopping on the beach.... Here's Ronnie checking one of the frogs out.

T-Ball

We signed Ronnie up for t-ball this year through the YMCA. He was on a team with other 4, 5 and 6 year olds. They played once a week and started off with a 20 minute practice, then played a "game" for the remaining 40 minutes. The first few nights went well - until they got to know each other. Then it was more like herding cats than playing t-ball. It was fun to watch!
