Our Family's History

My photo
Our family started on November 1, 2003 when Doug and Lauri got married. We added to our family on August 7, 2005 with the arrival of Ronnie. We live in Shakopee, MN and enjoy going to the gym, the movies, karate, and Papa's (and Nana's) cabin in McGregor on weeekends.

Ronnie Earns a Karate Kub Orange Belt!

Ronnie tested for his Karate Kub orange belt on 2-25-10. The Karate Kubs are students between the ages of 4 and 7 who are entering the martial arts. They progress through the belts at the Kub level all the way to black belt - then they join the Juniors Karate ranks and test for the "official" belts. Ronnie started off as a white belt - and after 2 months of consistent training, was able to test for his orange belt. What's next? The Karate Kub yellow belt!

Ronnie - ready to get to the studio to test!!

Karate Kubs wait for the testing to begin.

Valentine's Day Party

Ronnie's "school" had a Valentine's Day party, and Ronnie signed up to bring fruit snacks. When we arrived, they had all the tables set up for the party with plates of cupcakes, cheese & crackers and ice cream! After partaking in some treats, the kids were asked to get the Valentine bags they made earlier in the week. The teachers then called each kid up and gave them the Valentine's they brought so that they could hand them to each student. It was complete chaos - but fun to watch, as the kids really liked giving their Valentine's out.

Ya gotta love the days when your son asks if they can wear their Ironman costume to "school". Luckily, his teachers are pretty cool about it.

Hockey Practices 4, 5 & 6

Ronnie is doing very well in hockey! He can actually skate (kinda), and gets up pretty quickly on his own. The practices involve a lot of drills - and when he pays attention, he does a good job with them. Sometimes, he finds himself chasing after a stray puck, or watching the Mites play their game. He LOVES hockey though, and is very excited that they extended the "season" for 3 more practices. The last practice will be a game where an actual announcer will introduce the kids and call the game. We have a lot of practicing to do before then!

PRACTICE #4
One of the drills involves holding on to a cone and pushing it around the ice - this helps the kids get used to pushing off using their skates.
Ronnie is doing the drill correctly - look at him push off his skates!

Talking to coach...
When Ronnie gets frustrated from falling down, he sits and stews... just like his mama!
PRACTICE #5
This drill involves picking up pucks - Ronnie did a great job!

Putting the pucks on the cones....

The kids had to go inside of the "tunnel"

The kids had to get inside of the net.
PRACTICE #6
Getting help from Daddy with putting the skates on.
Ronnie is excited (and happy) that today is hockey day!
With this drill, the kids had to step over the hockey sticks. Ronnie made it to the end without falling!
Getting a ride from coach by holding on to the end of the hockey stick.
